Weekend hustle

Last weekend was a total grind. I worked a solid thirteen hours straight, from dawn till almost midnight. It all started the night before when I oversaw some equipment installation.

Even though I woke up 6 A.M., I didn’t get out of bed until about eight. First up, I called Moisés. He’s the new kid on the block, and yesterday was supposed to be his first day. We had him scheduled to stop by the culinary school and fix up the gear in the workshop restaurant.

Those AC units had to be ready because we had an event at nine, and one of them was on service schedule. But when I tried calling him, no response. It’s not the first time we’ve had new hires bail on us on day one. I started to worry he might not show up at the client’s site.

Thankfully, Moisés picked up on the second call, letting me know he was already halfway to the school.”

Starting the day off right

but I figured I’d drop by just to be sure. I tried reaching out to Luis, our top technician – you might remember him from an earlier post – only to learn he’s under the weather and off to the clinic for a check-up. Looks like bronchitis got the best of him.

With that in mind, I wasn’t about to change my plans to head over to the school and get those machines fired up. Thankfully, Moisés picked up on the second call, letting me know he was already halfway to the school. That reply truly made my day because it shows he’s dependable and takes his job seriously.

And guess what? Two events, not one. The first wrapped up at four, and the second ran till eleven.”

Mid-morning

When I got to school, he’d already set up, but surprise: the event wasn’t starting at nine as we thought. Nope, it was at one in the afternoon. And guess what? Two events, not one. The first wrapped up at four, and the second ran till eleven.

Talk about a twist for this crazy weekend, right? After confirming with the school, I called Victor to update him. Good thing because it meant I could team up with Moisés to sort things out quickly, especially since he’s not too familiar with the layout.

So, I decided to stay until the second event finished and sent Moisés home.”

Later in the afternoon

I hadn’t planned to stick around for long. Gerardo and Edson were supposed to be there. Since I was already at school, I decided to show Moisés the equipment we’re responsible for. The day passed by under the sun, with me checking the central unit regularly.

But as the afternoon dragged on, but only Gerardo showed up. Edson didn’t show up due to a mishap. So, I decided to stay until the second event finished and sent Moisés home. Plus, I had some time to shape up the post you’re reading now, logging all the day’s info in this blog.

After a quick check of the other gear, we were ready to head out, but we hit a snag with my ID.”

Wrapping Up the Day

Trying to make sense of what happened with Edson felt like going in circles, I’ll deal with it later. So, I checked all the other units on-site while Gerardo handled things. He used to be my boss, but now our roles are reversed, and I trust him to handle any issues. Taking a walk around the school grounds will give me time to think about Edson’s situation.

Before I knew it, the second meeting was over, and we shut down the equipment – thankfully, it held up fine. After a quick check of the other gear, we were ready to head out, but we hit a snag with my ID. After sorting that out, Gerardo and I headed home from the school. But I wasn’t going to let the weekend slip away, especially after babysitting a piece of equipment for thirteen hours straight.

At first, I could tell Gerardo wasn’t entirely convinced, but after meeting my charming friends, he warmed up to the idea.”

Good company

I asked Gerardo if he wanted to swing by a bar, where we’d meet up with a few friends for a couple of drinks. When we got to the bar, the girls were already there, so after exchanging greetings, we downed some delicious mojitos. At first, I could tell Gerardo wasn’t entirely convinced, but after meeting my charming friends, he warmed up to the idea.

We didn’t stay long, mainly because we were actually pretty tired, but hanging out with the girls made it all worthwhile. That’s how I spent my weekend, in good company, looking forward to seeing them again. Hopefully, that day comes soon because, honestly, getting to know them made my days a whole lot brighter.

Meet you at the next entry.
